History

the early days 1964 - 1999

Keating Graphic Design was established on the 1st of July 1999 by Jon and his wife Pat in Devonport Tasmania.

Jon started his design trade in 1964 in Devonport as an apprentice compositor in which he would layout adverts by hand. When his 5 year apprenticeship was over, Jon moved to Whyalla, SA and started work at Whyalla News as prepress.

Jon met his wife Pat in Whyalla and married. During this time in Whyalla and also Adelaide Jon and Pat had 3 children - Alli, Marcus and Anthony.

Jon worked between Graphic Design work in the daytime and Elizabeth Matriculation College at nights. In 1986 we all moved back to Jons home town of Devonport Tasmania. In 1988 during further study at the Tasmanian University Jon started a rock band called Magenta in which he played bass guitar and managed the band. Together they toured Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia. The band lasted 10 years until Jon decided that for the future of his family he would need a more stable career.

Jon returned to his design roots and started training on the latest computer equipment at the time at TAFE. Jon and Pat purchased an iMac computer, scanner, ink jet printer and paper slicer and started trading as Keating Graphic Design.

modern times

In the beginning we were lucky enough to get work through the Devonport council because they were impressed with a multicultural festival calendar that Jon worked on for them.

Kel Dominey from a company called Pachyderm Promotions approached us for designing adverts for his yearly calendars for 80 towns around Australia. This contract lasted 6 years.

In 2003 we moved to Queensland and we built our client base traveling though out Victoria, NSW and QLD selling shop to shop. We offered our services in business cards, brochures, flyers and magnets.

Anthony completed his full time Graphic Design course during the daytime and worked with the business every free opportunity. He is now a fulltime employee of the company

We later expanded to web design, signage and corporate branding and in July 2009 we moved into our new shop in Jindalee.
